AAMU ALUMNI

ALABAMA AGRICULTURAL AND MECHANICAL UNIVERSITY
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, INCORPORATED

The year was 1930. A group of graduates from a school known as “The State Agricultural and Mechanical College for Negroes formed “The Alumni Normalite Club”. This club was formed in an effort to foster a spirit of loyalty and support for the school. Today that school is “Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University” and “The Alumni Normalite Club” is “Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University Alumni Association, Inc.”

The purpose of Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University Alumni Association, Inc. (AAMU-AA) is to provide a medium through which alumni and friends may work to advance the growth and development of Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (A&M). AAMU-AA is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purpose.

AAMU-AA offer Alumni and friends the opportunity for a life-long connection with the University. With over 36 Chapters located across the United Sates, AAMU-AA has provided over $1 million dollars in scholarship money and other financial support to A&M. Our alumni, along with many contributing members are a vital part in A&M’s growing success.

As graduates of such a prestigious university, we understand the importance of education and are testaments to the quality of education provided at A&M. For example:

* A&M is the only 1890 land-grant university with three Ph.D. programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) areas. The fourth Ph.D. program (and state’s only one) focuses on Reading/Literacy.
* In 2014 A&M ranked 2nd in the nation in the awarding of undergraduate degrees in mathematics and statistics and natural resources and conservation to African Americans. And the Graduate Social Work Program
* In 2015 A&M joined a select group of institutions nationwide that have been designated as a Center of Academic Excellence in Geospatial Sciences (CAE-GS) by the U.S. Department of Defense's National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) in partnership with the U.S. Department of Interior's U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
* Graduateprograms.com in its Spring 2015 edition ranked A&M’s Graduate Social Work Program #2 in Nation. We are extremely proud that our alma mater has received these accolades and look forward to helping more students pursue their education at A&M. Like A&M itself, our alumni are a lot of things. We are perfectionists, entrepreneurs, visionaries, curious, proud, determined and strong. Our path is never ending. Let us stand together and chart our course.

The National Conference is the signature event produced biennial by AAMU-AA, focusing on informing alumni, corporate partners, and AAMU supporters of the innovative programs and projects that the university is engaged in and empowering alumni and supporters through education.

In 1991 Alabama A&M University Alumni Association, Inc. was incorporated. It is fitting that during our 2016 biennial national conference, we will have the opportunity celebrate 25 years as a non-profit corporation.
